Stem cell therapy for diabetes · Medellín, Colombia

In diabetes the problem was never only the sugar.Your tissue stopped listening to insulin. The treatment aims at why.

Stem cells for type 2 diabetes.type 1 diabetes.insulin resistance.diabetic neuropathy.slow-healing wounds.metabolic syndrome.

Wharton’s jelly mesenchymal cells, delivered intravenously over a three-day protocol in Medellín; exosomes can be added to your plan. In an umbrella review of 17 systematic reviews and more than 8,000 patients, studies found lower HbA1c, and the treatment reduced how much insulin patients needed — possibly by working on the chronic inflammation that keeps your tissue from responding. From $4,000.

Who this is for

If one of these is you, keep reading.

"The dose keeps going up"

Type 2 diabetes

Your numbers are managed, but the medication keeps climbing. The inflammation underneath is what keeps your tissue from listening to insulin.

"Since I was a kid"

Type 1 diabetes

An autoimmune condition, not a lifestyle one. Cells are immunomodulatory and work alongside your insulin; in the reviewed studies, C-peptide and HbA1c improved.

"You're borderline"

Insulin resistance & prediabetes

The stage where the most can still change: your tissue is growing deaf to insulin, but your pancreas is still keeping up.

"My feet burn at night"

Diabetic neuropathy

The small vessels that feed your nerves are failing. Burning, tingling or numbness in feet and hands that nobody seems able to settle.

"It won't close"

Slow-healing wounds & foot ulcers

A wound trapped in a cycle: poor circulation, neuropathy hiding the damage, and repair machinery that stalls before it finishes.

"Everything at once"

Metabolic syndrome

Blood pressure, abdominal fat, lipids and glucose all drifting together — with one chronic inflammation running underneath all of it.

How it works

What actually happens inside you.

Three steps, in plain language. This is the part most centers never explain.

  1. 1
    Pancreas Chronic inflammation

    Inflammation is the problem

In type 2, a chronic inflammation makes your tissue stop responding to insulin — and makes your pancreas work against the current. It is not only the sugar.

  2. 2
Stem cells, by IV Through the bloodstream

    The cells arrive by vein

Three days in Medellín: your cells go in intravenously, with exosomes if you add them, so they travel wherever your blood goes — not to one spot.

  3. 3
Inflammation calms Less strain on the pancreas

    The load comes down

With less inflammation, your tissue responds better to the insulin that is already there. That is where the measured drop in HbA1c and in insulin requirements comes from.

The aim is to protect the function you still have — and the evidence says that is worth a lot.

What the treatment can actually do

Numbers that moved. Not promises.

This is what mesenchymal cell therapy has done for diabetes across 17 systematic reviews and more than 8,000 patients — measured, published, and checkable.

−1.45%HbA1c

The average of your last three months of glucose, down by up to 1.45 points in the studies. Ask your doctor what that single number is worth.

Lessinsulin needed

Patients needing less insulin to hold the same control. For some, that means their doctor can lower a dose — that decision is always the doctor’s.

↑C-peptide

The marker of the insulin your own body still makes. It improved — which is the whole point of protecting the function you have left.

Mildside effects

In the reviews, side effects were generally mild, and serious events were rare.

“The path is now paved with asphalt instead of boulders.”

"I cannot say enough good things about my overall experience with Stemcells of Colombia. I am a Type 1 diabetic and have been so most of my life, I am 61. I use an insulin pump (Omnipod) and a CGM (Dexcom 7) and I also have a diabetic alert dog. I have struggled for many years with highs and lows and have had my A1c all over the board from 5.4 to 9.5. Since my treatment my blood sugar has started to stabilize and I have had zero highs since my treatment. I have had a few lows only because I am adjusting my Basal programs on my pump. Since my treatment my glucose has averaged 89, which is crazy. I know I will never be cured from this condition but if I can get the help to avoid the roller coaster ride it is 100% with it. Still have a long journey but the path is now paved with asphalt instead of boulders. My results will not be the same for everyone but if you follow their plan and take care of your diet and get plenty of regular exercise I am confident you to will see improvements. This organization has been nothing short of fantastic and I highly recommend them. If anyone would like to visit with me I have no problem discussing my experience. May GOD BLESS and yes DIABETES SUCKS. MIA and her staff ROCK!"

Every quote on this page is a real review posted publicly on Google by a real patient — not a testimonial written by the clinic. Here they are, straight from Google:

Why here

Not every stem cell works the same.

Two centers can both say “umbilical cord stem cells” and be selling very different things. The review that measured the results also compared the sources.

“Wharton’s jelly-derived MSCs exhibited superior efficacy, while umbilical cord blood-derived MSCs were less effective.”

Koishybayeva et al., Tissue and Cell (2025)

Stem Cells Colombia uses Wharton’s jelly

From the tissue of the umbilical cord — the source the review put at the top, not the cord blood it found less effective. When you compare quotes, ask every center which one they use.

Diabetes FAQ

Your questions, answered.

Will I need less insulin or less medication?

Many patients do. In the reviewed studies HbA1c came down by up to 1.45% and the treatment reduced how much insulin patients needed, and for some people that means their doctor can lower a dose. Keep taking your medication exactly as prescribed: any change is your doctor’s call, based on your markers. What the treatment does is give your doctor a better starting point, and the markers to see it.

What results has the research shown?

Meaningful improvement: better glycemic control, lower HbA1c and lower insulin requirements, especially in type 2. It works alongside your medication, your diet and your movement.

Is it different for type 1 and type 2?

Yes, and it matters. The evidence is strongest in type 2, where the inflammation driving insulin resistance is exactly what these cells act on. In type 1, the reviewed studies showed improved C-peptide and HbA1c, and each case is designed together with your endocrinologist.

Do I still need my diet and my exercise?

Absolutely, and more than ever. This aims to improve the terrain your diet and movement work on, so every healthy habit you keep counts for more.

How will your progress be measured?

By the same markers you started with. A functional-medicine doctor follows your HbA1c, glucose and insulin before and after, so the answer is objective rather than a feeling. Changes build gradually, typically between 3 and 6 months.

How many days do I need in Medellín?

Three days: cancer markers and premedication, then premedication and your stem cells, then premedication; a detox IV and exosomes IV can be added to your plan. Airport pickup can be added to your plan, and the hotel and treatment center share one building, so the days are calm and short.

Is it safe?

In the reviewed studies side effects were generally mild, and serious events were rare. Every IV protocol starts with cancer markers, for your safety. Your labs and your current treatment are reviewed before you book anything, so your plan is designed for you.

How much does it cost?

Diabetes protocols in Medellín start from $4,000 USD: the stem cells by IV, cancer markers, premedication and a consultation with the doctor. Exosomes, a detox IV, the Marriott Hotel in the same building and airport transfers can be added to your plan, and your coordinator sends that price in writing. Comparable treatment in the US typically runs $30,000–$40,000+.

What about my neuropathy or my wounds?

Those are evaluated as part of your case. The cells travel wherever your blood goes, so the aim is the same inflammation and the same small-vessel damage that drive them — always alongside the specialists already treating each one.

Is this approved by the FDA?

Stem cell therapy is not approved by the FDA, but in Colombia it is legal, and that is where your treatment takes place, performed by specialist physicians.

Why Wharton’s jelly cells and not another source?

Because the source matters. In that same umbrella review, Wharton’s jelly cells showed superior efficacy, while cells from umbilical cord blood were less effective. The cells at Stem Cells Colombia always come from Wharton’s jelly.

What can you expect?

Every body responds at its own pace; improvement usually builds over 3–6 months. What you can expect is the quality of the cells, a protocol followed with objective markers, and a medical team with you the whole way.
